2 bank workers robbed

CEBU, Philippines - Two bank employees lost over P30,000 cash and their vehicle to two motorcycle-riding robbers along Barangay Valencia, Carcar City on Thursday.

The police identified the victims as Ma. Ofelia Laoc, 45, chief of Fairbank’s Kaabag Program, and Ruben Pelegrin, 31, the bank’s program officer.

Reports showed that Pelegrin was driving a motorcycle towards Carcar City with Laoc as his backrider when two armed men who were riding in tandem on a motorcycle allegedly blocked their way.

The victims were reportedly leaving Barangay Valencia where they just made cash collections when they were robbed at around 1:30 p.m., said Senior Police Officer 2 Jose Repompo, desk officer of Carcar City Police Station.

“Pag-abot sa Lower Tal-ot, gibabagan sila sa mga suspetsado nga naa ra sa kilid sa dalan,” Repompo narrated.

The two men reportedly pointed their guns at the victims and declared a hold-up.

In fear, the victims handed over their cash collection amounting to over P30,000 together with the collection list and pieces of receipts. The robbers also took Pelegrin’s wallet which contained over P1,000 cash.

The robbers also carted away with them the victims’ motorcycle.

A team of police responded to the area after receiving a call for assistance but failed to locate the fleeing robbers.

Follow-up investigation is underway for the robbers’ arrest. — May B. Miasco/NSA (FREEMAN)
