CEBU, Philippines - A 51-year-old man died while his driver was injured after a Kia sedan they were riding rammed a prime mover parked along the highway in Barangay Luka, Oslob town last Monday evening.
Diosdado Tumarong was declared dead on arrival at the Oslob District Hospital. His driver, Joel Jurado, 39, sustained a cut to his knee and bruises.
The victims were reportedly trying to catch the last trip of the barge to Negros Oriental.
Police Officer 1 Jun Jerusalem, desk officer of Oslob Police Station, said Jurado admitted he was running at high speed because they were catching the barge.
But Jurado bumped the prime mover from behind, wrecking the vehicle he was driving.
Jerwin Balasabas, 31, driver of the prime mover, said he was forced to park along the road because he ran out of gas. He was also heading to Negros Oriental.
Both Balasabas and Jurado were held under police custody. They are temporarily detained at the Oslob Police Station pending the filing of criminal complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. — (FREEMAN)
