CEBU, Philippines – Just hours after guards of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center arrested two women who tried to sneak nubain into the prison last Saturday, another person was arrested for the same offense.
This time, it was a man who hid the ampules behind his genitals, CPDRC acting warden Romeo Manansala disclosed. The six ampules were taped together and were discovered when they made a cracking sound when Christian Casinillo was made to undergo inspection, Manansala said.
Casinillo was reportedly visiting his friend Danny Lopez.
Manansala said Casinillo will be charged for transporting illegal drugs.
In separate interview, CPDRC consultant Marco Toral said the price for the six ampules is said to be higher inside the jail, at P1,000 for all tubes, while it is sold around P150 each outside.
The women arrested before Casinillo tried to sneak in six ampules of nubain by placing them in a bucket of ice cubes.
Arrested were Resty Arsenal, 21, and Jovelyn Daclan, 32.
Manansala assured the CPDRC leadership isn’t lowering its guard down against attempts to smuggle drugs into the jail.
“Kung nagka-wise na ang mag-transport sa drugs, nagka-wise man sad mi,” he said.
Toral explained that the attempts weren’t surprising or alarming, considering that many of the 2,300 inmates are involved in illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, the following day, police seized suspected shabu worth an estimated P60,000 from Reynaldo Jumao-as, 25, in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City.
Police entered Jumao-as’ house by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Soliver Peras of the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 for violation of Sections 11, Article 2 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
The police were able to confiscate one medium-sized sachet and 28 small packs of suspected shabu, as well as P950 cash believed to be proceeds of the drug trade.
San Nicolas Police Station chief, Senior Insp. Chuck Barandog, said they placed Jumao-as under surveillance for almost two months before carrying out the search.
Barandog said Jumao-as could dispose of 20 grams a week. Most of his customers are reportedly trisikad drivers and those working at the fish port.
Jumao-as is currently detained at San Nicolas Police Station.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Julieto Dadobo, a resident of Purok 5 Tubongan, Consolacion, Cebu, was arrested by the police in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City last Sunday noon.
Police recovered one .38 caliber revolver with two live ammunitions and one small pack of suspect shabu from Dadobo.
Dadobo was immediately brought to the Mabolo Police Station for detention. He will face charges for violating the Dangerous Drugs Act and for illegal possession of firearms. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
