CEBU, Philippines - With the string of calamities and the latest typhoon that beset the country, yesterday’s solemnity of the Immaculate Conception served to remind the faithful about thanksgiving and hope.

“Daghang balita nga nagdalag kasubo sama sa krimen, graft and corruption, unemployment. Atong hinumduman nga sa matag higayon nga dunay hitabo nga magdala’g kasubo, atong pamalandongan ang kasaulogan sa Immaculada Concepción kay kini nagdala kini ug kalipay,” said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma in his homily while celebrating Mass for the occasion.

“Ang fiesta nagpahinumdum nga ang Dios wa malimot sa iyang saad... Taliwala sa kasubo, ang Dios uban ni Maria nag-uban kanato,” he added.

The solemnity was held at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, which celebrated its feast day during the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

One of the hermano mayors during the church’s feast day celebration was former Cebu first district congressman Eduardo Gullas. The FREEMAN chairman Jose Gullas also participated in the offertory.

Palma admitted being worried earlier yesterday over the weather, fearing that it might prevent the solemn procession from happening after the 4pm mass.

“I was worried this noon that it might rain. But it didn’t. Let’s be thankful to God for the good weather,” the prelate shared. (FREEMAN)
