CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot to death by an unidentified person in Barangay Adlaon, Cebu City Saturday night.
Jovely Arcayan, 36, died of gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Arcayan was reportedly walking on his way home with friends Mauricio Solon and Elmer Delfin around 9 p.m. after attending a birthday party nearby when upon reaching a grassy area, an unidentified person appeared and shot the victim several times.
The assailant fled on foot while the victim slumped to the muddy ground.
Solon and Delfin, who were both spared from the shooting, called for help.
Responding personnel from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit found at least three gunshot wounds on the victim’s head and another one on his back that caused his immediate death.
The police are investigating the incident to identify the culprit and determine the motive behind the killing.
In another shooting incident in Barangay Poblacion in the town of Barili last Friday, a man died after he was shot several times by another man whom he allegedly had an argument with.
Camelo Aguilar, 29, of Barangay Giloctog, was shot dead by Wilmer Napoles of Barangay Campangga.
Initial investigation revealed that Aguilar was riding a motorcycle and was about to go inside his store when Napoles, who was apparently waiting for him to arrive, shot him many times.
Aguilar sustained gunshot wounds on his body and died instantly while Napoles fled using the victim’s motorcycle.
The police found seven empty shells and ammunition of a cal. 45 pistol at the crime scene.
The suspect was arrested in a follow-up operation in Barangay Mantayupan yesterday morning following a tip from an informant.
The police failed to recover the weapon used by the suspect because he allegedly threw it away after shooting Aguilar.
Investigation further showed that the victim and the suspect were allegedly found arguing over an unknown matter days before the incident.
Napoles is now detained at Barili Police Station’s stockade and will be charged with murder today. (FREEMAN)
