Man shot after ‘pointing’ gun at cop

CEBU, Philippines -  A policeman shot and injured a man who allegedly pointed a gun at him and at his fellow policemen Saturday night while they were patrolling Sitio San Isidro, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Victoriano “J.R. Negro” Sabejon, was brought to Cebu City Medical Center and was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

He was shot by Police Officer 1 Christopher Cuizon of the Mabolo Police Station, who claimed self defense.

The police also arrested Chrismel Macdasal, 21 and Richard Quimaco, 25, who were found inside Sabejon’s house and were seized with shabu and drug paraphernalia.

At about 9 p.m. last Saturday, Cuizon and colleagues PO3 Rodel Abajuela, PO3 Douglas Dela Peña and PO1 Rayme Veraque, all part of Mabolo Police’s miscellaneous team,  conducted foot patrol in the interior portion of sitio San Isidro along the Mahiga Creek.

Cuizon, who was walking ahead of the team, passed by the house of Sabejon and heard somebody shouted, “Hoy, asa mo? (Hey, where are you going?)

The police officer checked who was it and found Sabejon. He then told the suspect, “Pulis sa Mabolo, iisa ang T-shirt ug kamot.”

Instead of heeding, Sabejon allegedly pointed a gun at Cuizon, prompting the policeman to shoot him, allegedly sensing that his life was in danger.

Cuizon asked for back up and for medical assistance after shooting Sabejon.

Mabolo Police chief Senior Inspector Peter Heartzel Bellido, personnel of Mobile Patrol Group and Special Weapons and Tactics responded.

The suspect sustained three gunshot wounds on his shoulder and chest and was brought to the hospital.

A homemade cal. 22 revolver loaded with ammunition and a small pack of shabu were recovered from the suspect.

Police officers went inside Sabejon’s house and arrested Quimaco, who yielded two small packs of shabu and Macdasal, who were found with drug paraphernalia in his possession.

An improvised shot gun, three knives, two mobile phones, and a lamp shade were further found inside the suspect’s house and are now in the custody of the Mabolo Police.  (FREEMAN)
