CEBU, Philippines - Sage Prep Schoolhouse Inc. and Cambridge Child Development Centre for Progress Corp., expressed interest to lease an area at the South Road Properties for the schools’ expansion plans.
Based on the proposal of the schools, as represented by president and superintendent Jacqueline Hayley Limtin, they would want to lease an 8,000 square meter area for 25 years with an option to renew for another 25 years.
With regards to the amount of rent, they want to lease it for P20 per square meter excluding any road right of way within the mentioned area.
“(For the rent increase, we propose) 0% for 10 years, 5% increase on the 11th year and every 2 years henceforth,” Limtin stated in her letter addressed to the City Council.
They have also requested a zero percent rent in the first year during the construction phase of the school building and other facilities.
“We are excited at the prospect of leasing the mentioned space and feel that this new Sage and Cambridge Cebu campus will be an asset to the Cebu City community,” Limtin said.
For the fund of construction, Limtin assured that they have prepared for a development loan particularly earmarked for school development. Right now, the Cebu City government is planning to sell a part of the SRP to big investors in the country.
“Sage Prep Schoolhouse is a corporation that operates a private school. It was started in response to the first preschool we opened in Cebu — Cambridge Child Development Centre,” Limtin said.
According to her, both schools utilize a mix of local and international curriculum in offering childhood education programs. Both schools are also owned and run by the same management.
“We are unique in that we mainstream special needs children in a well-nurtured school environment, and we teach our students to be compassionate thinkers who will be the leaders in tomorrow’s global society,” she said.
Cambridge is a Singapore international preschool franchise. In Cebu, it operates two centers –one in Lahug, Cebu City since 2003 and one in Banawa, Cebu City since 2012. Sage Prep Schoolhouse Inc. was established in 2007 due to the need to continue the progressive education approach of its sister preschool, Cambridge.
Sage has been operating its elementary program and is set to open high school in the coming year.
“Since then our Kindergarten graduates (in Cambridge) have excelled in other big schools, showing off a healthy balance in optimal IQ and EG development. In Sage, innovative progressive teaching approaches are used such as experimental learning, integrated project and differentiated multi-intelligence pedagogies,” she further added. (FREEMAN)
