CEBU, Philippines - The municipality of Bantayan has received the biggest share of assistance after being hit by typhoon Yolanda with P26.8 million out of P82.7 million total assistance received through the Recovery Assistance for Yolanda.
The amount, which was intended for the rehabilitation of damaged government structures, was based on the damage assessment that local government units submitted to the Department of Interior and Local Government-7.
The infrastructures include municipal halls, public markets, and civic centers.
Aside from Bantayan town, other receiving LGUs were Sta. Fe town with P12 million received; Daanbantayan P9.7 million; Bogo City P6.2 million; Madridejos and Medellin P5.2 million each; San Remegio P4.3 million; Tabuelan P4.2 million; Sogod P4 million; Pilar P1.7 million; Tuburan P1.3 million; Tabogon P1.1 million; and Borbon P744,205.
Daanbantayan and Borbon have so far finished the construction of their respective municipal halls. Both towns’ public markets and civic centers are also nearing completion. Bantayan and Tuburan, on the other hand, are yet to implement their projects after just recently completing governmental procedures.
Bogo City has not also started its projects pending amendment on its proposal while Madridejos and Pilar are now both in the procurement process.
The rest of the LGUs in northern Cebu are now in various stages of repairing their public buildings. — (FREEMAN)
