CEBU, Philippines - A retired member of the Philippine Army was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City on Monday.
Victim Rolando Antipasado Espejon, 58, died immediately of a gunshot wound to the head.
As per interview with the victim’s daughter Maricel Espejon, the victim was allegedly sitting on the sofa at 7 pm when an unidentified person barged inside the house and shot the victim once before fleeing on foot.
Rolando sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his head. The bullet exited through his left temple.
Maricel called for police assistance but Inayawan Response Unit personnel who were first to arrive has found the victim no longer breathing.
Responding policemen recovered an empty shell of a cal. 9mm pistol from the crime scene.
Homicide investigators believed that the victim was shot in close range to make sure he would die.
Senior Police Officer 4 Alex Dacua of Homicide Section said the victim’s daughter saw the perpetrator’s face, although they are not divulging his identity yet pending investigation.
Dacua said that the incident might be a case of love triangle. Based on follow-up investigation, the victim had been living with his girlfriend but the two of them have allegedly broken up.
The victim, Dacua further said, allegedly had no known enemies and was described by his neighbors as a good man. — (FREEMAN)
