U.S. Navy to repair five DSWD centers

CEBU, Philippines - Five centers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development will be repaired courtesy of the American Navy.

The structures up for repairs and renovation include Home For Girls Dormitory, Persons with Disabilities Dormitory, Regional Haven, Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center and the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth.

Signing a memorandum of understanding with DSWD was the 30th Naval Construction Regiment represented by Commander Joe Harder.

Harder said the US military is here upon the invitation of the Philippine Government to support the Department of National Defense’s objective and internal peace and security plan.

Representing the DSWD Central Visayas was Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat signed the MOU to seal the partnership in a brief ceremony held at the DSWD office, Cebu City.  As stated in the MOU, the U.S. Government will perform their own quality assurance while the construction in Civil Action Detail, Philippines will periodically make the construction progress reports available to DSWD.

Jabagat expressed her deepest gratitude to the leadership of the US Navy for the new established partnership.

Meanwhile, four barangays in Bindoy town, Negros Oriental has already utilized their level II gravity-fed water system amounting in total to P4.1 million.

Of the total amount, P3 million is from Millennium Challenge Corporation and the remaining P1.1 million is from the local counterpart.

Benefitting from the project with a total of 938 individuals in recipient barangays include Batangan, Malaga, Nagcasunog and Pangalaycayan which got prioritized for funding by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services, a poverty reduction program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.  (FREEMAN)
