CEBU, Philippines - The city government says there is a need to widen a road in Barangay Duljo Fatima or establish a new one in the area to provide easy access from C. Padilla Street to Spolarium Street.
Mayor Michael Rama made the decision after seeing an aerial view of the area, taking off from the experience in Barangay Mambaling where a community was razed by fire three months ago because firefighters had difficulty penetrating the area owing to narrow roads.
Spolarium Street itself isn’t wide enough, thus, the access road is necessary.
“Gamay na sakyanan… normally dili kaagi sa Spolarium because ang Spolarium gamay rag kalsada nya daghan og illegal structures,†said city administrative assistant Henry Tumalabcab.
However, the road the city plans to widen sits on a private property and the owner, the Suarez family, reportedly proposed that the city open a new one instead. City representatives and representatives of the family will meet this Friday to discuss alternatives further.
“Naa silay laing paagian na kalsada ba kay dako man ang lot ana owned by the Suarrez family.†Tumalabcab said.
The city wants to start the project as soon as possible and complete the same by next month.
“Bayran nato sila kay private lot man…gusto nato nga naa tay negotiation, naay agreement about sa pagbaligya kay dili man maayo nga ato silang i-pwersa,†Tumalabcab said. (FREEMAN)
