Raul Kevin Cabahug now heads BCLP-Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines - Looc Barangay Councilman  Raul Kevin Cabahug won in the Saturday elections of the Barangay Councilor’s League of the Philippines-Mandaue City Chapter.

The voting was preceded though with a debate which delayed the election process.

Raul Kevin ran against fellow Looc Barangay Councilman Elmer Cabahug. Both are cousins but it was allegedly Raul Kevin’s candidacy that Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes was backing.

Raul Kevin got a total of 120 votes while Elmer only got 48 votes.

Prior the election, Elmer questioned what “by laws” will be adopted in the election process, whether it will be the by-laws of the BCLP National chapter or of BCLP-Mandaue City.

Elmer wanted that the BCLP national by-laws be adopted since he said the local by-laws were not ratified yet.

However, it was raised that even the BCLP National by-laws were not ratified.

Elmer then motioned for the division of the house to decide on which by-laws needed to be followed.

The motion however was questioned by Tabok Barangay Councilman Elmer Rivera who said that they could not choose between the two by-laws since many of them did not know the provisions stipulated on the both by-laws.

To resolve the issue, a division of the house was done wherein the barangay councilmen  were made to choose whether the manner of election be done through hand raising or secret balloting. Majo-rity voted for hand-raising.

As the new president, Raul Kevin said he will closely work with Mayor Cortes to provide an office for BCLP-Mandaue City.  (FREEMAN)
