CEBU, Philippines - A police officer was wounded in an attempt to arrest a man he saw in the act of robbing passengers of a Public Utility Jeepney yesterday morning in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.
Inspector Delfin Bontuyan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 suffered a cut in his left arm when he tried to grab the knife that Narciso Medina, 25, was holding.
Medina also sustained a cut in his head when Bontuyan hit him using his gun in order to subdue him.
According to police investigation, there were two passengers of the PUJ, Alfie Dagatan, 20, and his brother Kenneth, who rode the jeepney from Colon Street to the North Bus Terminal.
But when the PUJ reached Carreta area, Medina declared a holdup while holding a knife and instructed the passengers to give him their wallets and belongings.
Medina then told Dagatan to give him his necklace worth P3, 000 but he hesitated, prompting the suspect to grab the necklace from the victim.
At that time, Bontuyan saw the commotion inside the PUJ and noticed someone was holding a knife.
He got off from his car, boarded the PUJ and grabbed the suspect’s hand which was holding the knife.
Bontuyan successfully captured the suspect and was brought to CIDG headquarters at Camp Sotero Cabahug, Gorordo Cebu City.
