CEBU, Philippines - The National Nutrition Council-7 starts today the evaluation and validation of the best practices of local government units in terms of nutrition programs implementation in their respective areas in the region.

The four provinces, 15 cities, 16 municipalities and 102 barangays in Central Visayas will be adjudged for the Outstanding Province, City and Municipality, and the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.

Results will be made known by the end of July this year as part of NNC-7 culminating activities for the 39th Nutrition Month, said Dr. Parolita Mission, NNC-7 program coordinator.

Mission said the contest is one way of updating local officials and workers on current trends and issues in the implementation of nutrition programs in their area of responsibility.

She added this is also one way of giving recognition to local officials and workers, whose nutrition programs generates positive impact in their respective communities.

Meanwhile, Mission said only today, except for Saturdays and Sundays, from April to May, that they will have no work, which is part of the two-month trial of the four-day work week at 10 hours work per day.

She said their head office have adopted this working scheme which is part of the strategy to assess the implication of a common schedule in terms of energy conservation.

Mission said their schedule in the region was already fully-booked when such request was relayed to them.

To recall, the Department of Energy has been adopting several programs to increase power efficiency and reduce cost in the government including the Government Energy Management Program, which is part of DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program.  (FREEMAN)
