CEBU, Philippines - An association of tourist guides in Cebu guaranteed to give its full support to the Cebu City government in making Carbon Market as one of the tourist spots in the city.
But at the same time, the safety of the tourists is still a main concern, said Judahline Taghoy, President of Cebu Association of Tourguides Inc.
“Full support man gyud mi. (But) i-consider namo ang security ug safety sa mga tourists,†said Taghoy
Earlier, Chief Inspector Noel Luminte, chief of the Carbon Police Station, said that they would try their best to assure the security of the tourists who will visit the Carbon Market.
According to Taghoy, the Cebu City United Vendors Association also promised to help in assuring the security within the premises.
“Niana man nga patawagan lang sila (Cebu City United Vendors Association) before mi mangadto,†she said
Last Friday, Grace Melendres, secretary of CATG Inc. was expected to tour tourists around the place. This did not take place though due to the lack of time.
However, she said that even before the proposal to make the Carbon Market a tourist spot, they always passed through the area and they let the tourists roam around, but only in the dry areas.
Hopefully by next week, Melendres said they can tour the foreigners around.
She added that they will let the tourists see how the locally known “chorizo†is made, as well as showcasing locally-produced vegetables, fruits, flowers and handicraft.
Rama said that Carbon Market used to be a tourist attraction and he wants it to be back.
“Atong i-improve, i-develop and revive ning lugara by bringing buses with tourists para molambo ang atong turismo ug ekonomiya. Atong buhion ang Warwick-Barracks, ang Freedom Park,†he said.
Tourism Commissioner Tetta Baad said they would build a tourist kiosk in the area where goods and food would be sold.
Melendres and Taghoy said this would help in promoting the tourism industry of the city. (FREEMAN)
