CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Special Operations Group -7 has arrested a man found to be manufacturing firearms illegally in the mountain barangay of Cogon Cruz in Danao City last Friday afternoon.
During the raid, the group seized two finished Ingram Machine Pistol, one UZI sub-machine gun, one unfinished caliber .25 Ingram machine pistol, one unfinished caliber .45 machine pistol, and one bolt for Ingram machine pistol.
Police also recovered gun manufacturing equipment and 28 assorted hand grips.
Chief Supt. Rex Derilo, head of the Regional Intelligence Division, said the seized items are worth about P100,000.
The subject of the raid, Roselito Gonzales, 46, a resident in the area, was also arrested.
Derilo said they hatched the raid after receiving information of Gonzales’ illegal operation. A team led by SPO2 Jesus Rudson verified that Gonzales was making the guns at a shanty.
“Mao nay modus if I’m the illegal gun manufacturer… nganong maghimo man ko og armas sa akong balay?†Derilo said.
Three months ago, RSOG also arrested other men manufacturing guns illegally and seized their equipment.
Gonzales said it was from making magazines for firearms that he earned money to support his family. He said he has sent his children to school from what he was earning but he never taught any of them the trade.
Derilo urged local gun manufacturers to get the necessary permits for their businesses. In fact, several gun manufacturers operate in Danao legitimately.
Gonzales, however, said getting the permits is very costly. He is now facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Ammunitions Act. (FREEMAN)
