Two motorcycle drivers die in separate accidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two motorcycle drivers died and two others were injured in separate vehicular accidents in the town of San Fernando and Danao City last Sunday.

Carlos Zabala, 37, of Camagong, Lahug, Cebu City died at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he was brought after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another motorcycle along the national highway of Panadtaran, San Fernando past 2:00 a.m.

Zabala’s passenger, Elsa Andiano, 32, of Sanga, San Fernando, was also brought to the VSMMC due to several injuries.

Police investigation showed that Zabala and Andiano were going south from Cebu City while another motorcycle driven by Ruel Hanava, 32, of Barangay Balungag, San Fernando was reportedly traveling on the opposite direction at a high speed.

PO1 Erwin Oyao, said that Hanava was reportedly under the influence of liquor after attending a fiesta celebration in Barangay Balud.

Witnesses said that Hanava was traveling in a zigzag manner before he collided with Zabala’s motorcycle.

Hanava was also taken to the VSMMC for serious physical injuries.

Another motorcyclist was also killed after he bumped into an Isuzu Wing Van truck along the national road in Barangay Sabang, Danao City.

Gil Breiane Billones, 25, of Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen, suffered severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the Danao Provincial Hospital.

While driving his motorcycle, Billones suddenly encroached on the opposite lane and hit the truck bound for Cebu City.

Romulo Paglinawan, 45, of Alihis, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, was going toward Cebu City from Bacolod City when the motorcycle suddenly appeared at the intersection.

Paglinawan tried to slow down and stop the truck but Billones hit the front left side portion of the vehicle, causing his injuries.

Rebecca Billones, mother of the victim, refused to file charges against Paglinawan and agreed to settle the matter.  (FREEMAN)
