CEBU, Philippines - Ninety percent or 20 churches in northern Cebu were severely damaged, with most of their roofs blown away by super typhoon Yolanda.
This was according to Msgr. Achilles Dakay, media liaison officer of Archdiocese of Cebu, during an interview by the media, yesterday.
He said it was agreed that there would be a mutual aid fund wherein the Metro Cebu parishes would help the affected parishes.
“We already assigned each of the Metro Cebu parishes a parish in the north where all donations, like food, water and temporary shelter, would be given,†Dakay said.
He said the recent calamity, was an act of nature. He, however, said “God can draw goodness out of evil incidentsâ€, adding that helping one another is a good deed.
Dakay said he does not believe that Sr. Santo Niño spare Cebu from the calamities because Tacloban City also honors the Holy Child as its protector. This was after he was asked for his opinion on statements circulating in social networking sites.
He said what the people need is faith so that they would trust to rely in God’s power. He said people pray every day that they be delivered from evil; but they would always be danger for them.
He added God has a reason for all of these, which is why faith is important.
