CEBU, Philippines - The head of the woman who was found dead in a room with her lover in Liloan town may have been struck with a hard object, autopsy results revealed.
Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory 7 medico legal officer Felino Brunia revealed that she found contusions in Leodita Cañete’s head and she also had scratches in her body.
Cañete, 49, sustained three gunshots wounds in her back while her lover, Nerio Tangcawan, 57, had a gunshot wound in his right temple.
“Fatal ang shots, di na madala sa hospital,â€Brunia said.
But Brunia failed to check who owned the four teeth found in the room.
The results of the paraffin test conducted on the two victims are not yet available yesterday.
The couple sought for security protection at the police station after they received a death threat allegedly from Danilo Berezo, 37, of Barangay Yati, Liloan and reportedly, another lover of Cañete.
Cañete was annulled while Tangcawan was a widower and a resident of Barangay Libertad, Daanbantayan.
Due to the threat, they decided to sleep in the servant’s quarter, a separate room within Cañete’s residence.
PO1 Jose Ahron Ortega was detailed to secure the area. It was raining hard at that time and Ortega reportedly did not notice any commotion coming from the servant’s quarter.
They started to suspect that something happened because Cañete refused to answer calls and text messages from Ortega.
They decided to forcibly open the room and found the dead bodies.
Recovered in the scene were two deformed slugs, two bullets, four empty cartridge, .357 handgun, four teeth and shreds of skin.
Chief Insp. Jose Liddawa told The FREEMAN that even if Berezo was not in the scene, he will still subjected to an investigation.
But, yesterday morning, Berezo appeared at the Liloan Police Station and requested to undergo a paraffin test to clear his name.
Liddawa said Berezo denied any involvement in the incident. — (FREEMAN)
