Accident kills 1 in Carcar

CEBU, Philippines - One died and two others are still in critical condition in a vehicular accident involving two motorcycles Thursday afternoon on the barangay road of Barangay Napo, Carcar City.

Victims were all onboard motorcycles and were traveling in opposite direction when they collided.

Celgen Gascon, 27, of Barangay Ubaña, died while on his way to the Carcar Provincial Hospital while Rey Alcomendras, 18, of Barangay Mantatong and his back rider, Mark Anthony Flores, 18, of Barangay Mangyan, both from Sibonga town, were also rushed to the same hospital.

They were referred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further medical treatment.

Gascon was onboard his Honda Wave motorcycle and was traveling towards Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City while Alcomendras and Flores were on board Rusi motorcycle and bound for Barangay Mantatong when the incident happened.

SPO1 Silas Seballo, desk officer, said they could not determine if both drivers were under the influence of liquor as there was no liquor test conducted.

Seballo said Alcomendras encroached on the opposite lane and collided with Gascon.

“Wala tingale makabantay ang usa (Gascon) nga nagpadulong ang pikas (Alcomendras) unya kusog ang dagan mao to pwerteng igo-a,” Seballo said in a phone interview.

Those who were onboard were all thrown off the motorcycles due to the strong impact.

The victims were also not wearing helmets, said Seballo.  (FREEMAN)
