Meca re-elected as PCL prov’l federation president

CEBU, Philippines - Danao City Councilor Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca celebrated her 35th birthday yesterday with a fresh mandate as president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Provincial Federation.

She will then continue another term as ex-officio member of the Provincial Board.

In yesterday’s PCL general assembly and election of officers, Talisay City Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III was also re-elected as vice president.

PCL national president Alma Moreno Salic, national chairman Alan Zulueta and national secretary-general Maybelyn Rose Fernandez attended the activity held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol yesterday.

Meca and her slate ran unopposed, the second time in the history of the PCL elections in the province of Cebu.

“With the help sad sa mga members, sa ilaha sad pagsalig sa maong liderato, mao seguro ning usa ka rason og nganong na unite gyud ang PCL, (With the help of the members and their trust in the leadership, this is one reason why the PCL remains united)”, Meca told reporters.

Meca said that since she assumed the position in 2010, it has been their thrust to set aside political differences to preserve democracy in the PCL.

Her slate was composed of councilors coming from different political parties.

Meca vowed to serve the PCL well, which has 524 members in the entire province, and continue the projects they have started the past three years.

The PCL was able to provide educational tool kits and materials to children in 1,352 day care centers in the province and helped in the repair and rehabilitation of the buildings out of the financial assistance they got from provincial and national sources.

Governor Hilario Davide III, who administered the oath of the newly elected PCL officers, assured of P1 million of financial assistance.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who is the aunt of Meca, assured Davide that the P1 million he pledged to PCL will be approved by the PB on Monday’s regular session.
