Following order for revamp cebu customs execs relinquish their posts

CEBU, Philippines - Top officials of the Bureau of Customs- Port of Cebu and the sub-port of Mactan have relinquished their posts.

This after Commissioner Rufino Biazon ordered Friday the 17 district collectors and 37 sub-port collectors to relinquish their positions on Monday to pave the way for a major revamp.

BOC-Cebu District Collector Edward dela Cuesta, in an interview with The Freeman yesterday, said he already submitted his letter to Biazon on Friday, along with the letter of sub-port of Mactan Collector Paul Alcazaren.

“Nag-submit kami ng letter that we are relinquishing our posts. If ma approve na yon, then probably there will be new district collector in Cebu and in Mactan,” dela Cuesta said.

Biazon issued a memorandum for a revamp, stating that this is needed “in the best interest of providing service.”

On January 10, 2013, Biazon initiated a major revamp among 16 BOC officials, including then Cebu district collector Ronnie Silvestre, who was replaced by dela Cuesta.

Biazon said the reassignment of the officials was done for them to perform better.

The commissioner said he will be evaluating them every three months and if the revamp does not produce good results, he would reshuffle them again.

In his latest memorandum, Biazon said the new major revamp is “a step toward the reforms” he is initiating in the bureau.
