Man killed over P5, hantak

CEBU, Philippines - Two neighbors’ argument over P5 pesos and ‘hantak’ led to a tragic end.

A trisikad driver who shot his neighbor but missed, ended up dead after his head was slammed on the pavement in Barangay Inayawan last Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Marzel Badana, 24, and the suspect as Marlo Angga, 38, a construction worker. Both are residents of the barangay.

Based on investigation conducted by the Homicide Section, Badana and Angga were playing a toss coin game locally known as “hantak” at the roadside at past 4 pm when an argument erupted between them over their bet, which lacked P5.

Badana , a resident of sitio Pansang, left the place and shortly after, returned armed with a gun.

He then shot Angga but missed prompting the latter to grapple for the gun and eventually disarm him.

The suspect then slammed the victim’s head on the pavement and then hit his head with the gun.

The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center for immediate medical attention, but he was pronounced dead a few hours later due to severe head injuries.

The suspect, who went to the same hospital together with the victim, was arrested by police officers from Pardo Police Station.

A deformed caliber .38 revolver with five live bullets, believed to be the victim’s gun, was recovered by a police officer who first responded to the alarm and turned it over to Pardo Police.

An empty shell and a slug of the same caliber were also recovered from the crime scene.

The suspect will be facing charges for killing the victim, said police.   (FREEMAN)
