CEBU, Philippines - Updating the Comprehensive Land Use Plan in Cebu City is on top of the priority projects of the City Planning and Development Office temporarily headed by city administrator Jose Marie Poblete.
The last approved CLUP for Cebu City was approved back in 1996 and was supposed to be good for ten years.
CPDO is currently completing the CLUP, the revisions of which mainly note that the developments in the north district are heading upland.
In a press briefing yesterday held at the mayor’s conference room, CPDO officials revealed its objectives for the second term of re-elected Mayor Michael Rama which started last July 1st.
As far as CLUP is concerned, the planning office will focus on the consideration and approval of the completed plan from the City Development Council, the City Council and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board for the next two years.
The long-term goal of the office before Rama’s second term ends is the review of the CLUP and the zoning ordinance.
Poblete explained that the two, which complement each other, are often mistakenly interchanged.
“The land use plan is implemented through the zoning ordinance,†Poblete said.
Paying homage to Cebu City’s rich heritage and history, CPDO will also install street name signages within key historic areas in the city.
“For example, Magallanes Street will have a signage in Spanish like Calle Magallanes. These are proposals pa. We will finalize the identification of historic streets,†Poblete added.
The project is set to be implemented by the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission. –(FREEMAN)
