CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III has renewed 169 out of 264 casual employees under his office and the Provincial Engineering’s Office for one month.
Davide signed the memorandum just before he left for Manila for a meeting yesterday.
Davide’s chief of staff, lawyer Ramil Abing, said that these employees are worried about their status since the new governor assumed office prompting the extension of their employment for the whole month of July.
Of these casual employees, 113 out of 173 are renewed under the Office of the Governor while 56 out of 91 are under the engineering’s office.
Most of these casual employees were appointed by former governor, now third district Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia.
When Garcia was suspended last December 19, 2012, then acting governor Agnes Magpale renewed their appointments effective January 1, 2013 until it expired on June 30, 2013.
There are 541 casual employees at the Capitol whose appointments expired last June 30, 2013 while 954 are regular employees.
Also extended for the whole month of July is the employment of 797 outsourced staff although the contract between their agency and the Capitol is still up December 2013.
These outsourced employees are designated as medical and clerical staff.
Abing said that he has also prepared yesterday the memorandum for the extension of 11 out of 23 casual employees under the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) also for one month.
Davide is set to sign the memorandum when he returns on Monday. (FREEMAN)
