CEBU, Philippines - A jealous husband accidentally shot dead his wife during a scuffle during a heated argument Wednesday evening in Barangay Ward 4, Minglanilla.
Anna May Labrador, 23, just came from a child’s birthday party in Barangay Bakay when she was shot in the chest with her two children watching.
She was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Her husband, 25-year-old William Labrador, a construction worker, was believed to be under the influence of liquor.
William admitted to the crime.
He reportedly once caught Anna May texting someone else a few months back, the reason they always argued.
SPO1 Florante Capangpangan, team leader, said that Anna May asked permission to attend the birthday party when William arrived earlier that afternoon.
The suspect agreed but on the condition that she would be home early.
But Anna May returned home late. She knocked on the door several times as William fell asleep.
“Gituktok unya murag dugay nakamata unya dihang naablihan diha naglalis na,†Capangpangan said. (It took a while for him to get up, and then they argued.)
Amid the heated argument of the couple, William took his paltik Frontier revolver and aimed at Anna May. Anna May tried to retaliate and ended up in a scuffle until William accidentally pulled the trigger.
The bullet hit his right hand and Anna May’s chest.
Police recovered the revolver with one 5.56mm bullet of M16 rifle.
Police took William to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory-7 in Camp Sotero Cabahug Cebu City yesterday for paraffin test.
In an interview, William was remorseful as he admitted the crime.
“Dako kaayo akong pagmahay… wala nako tuyua,†William said in tears. (It was not deliberate. I regret what happened.)
Police are now coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development for a stress debriefing on the two children.
A parricide case is now being prepared against William. (FREEMAN)
