CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 is encouraging its social workers to voice out their thoughts and sentiments regarding the underlying issues and policies on the Magna Carta for Public Social Workers.
In a talk with the social workers and other service providers in the different towns and cities in Central Visayas, DSWD-7 regional director Mercedita Jabagat also prompted them to review and to be more attentive and vigilant on what is being declared by this law.
The talk aims to update, understand and resolve solutions to R.A 9344 known as the Magna Carta for Public Social Workers.
DSWD-7 in a press statement stated that in the past years, only a few local government units and non-government organizations were familiar on this major law, thus there were many issues and concerns raised in relation to its implementation.
The law was passed on February 2007 in line with the state’s policy to promote the social and economic wellbeing of public social workers, their living and working conditions and terms of employment.
As defined, a public social worker is an employed social worker in the government service which helps individuals, families, groups and communities develop, improve and maintain or restore their capability for coping with the demands of their environment, through the use of social work methods and interventions.
