CEBU, Philippines - After more than a year since it was closed, the terminal at the old public market in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City was reopened yesterday morning by Congressman Eduardo Gullas.
Gullas, who is running for city mayor of Talisay, clarified that politics has nothing to do with the reopening of the terminal.
He said that a leader should listen to the people he leads.
“Ang buotan o bisan dili buotan nga lider kinahanglang maminaw sa mga tawo….unya human niya og paminaw i-adopt and make a decision and that is attribute of a good leader…dili kay tungod siya maoy lider ang iyahang gusto na lang gyud ang matuman,†Gullas said. (A good leader should listen to his people, instead of imposing his will on them.)
Gullas denied the issue that the lot of the old market in Tabunok was already sold. He said that it was not sold by the city.
The congressman said that when he passed by Tabunok on his way to Lagtang, he saw the heavy traffic in the area especially under the flyover where the tricycles stay.
He said that it came to his mind to open again the terminal in the old public market of Tabunok to ease the traffic. The said terminal is not only for tricycles but also for trisikad.
Last Thursday, Gullas had a consultation with the presidents of the tricycle organizations and traysikads who requested him to reopen the terminal.
Gullas will also meet with the vendors in Lagtang and there will be a possibility that the old public market in Tabunok will be reopened and allow the vendors in Lagtang to go back to the old Tabunok public market.
On the other hand, drivers of tricycles told reporters yesterday that they are not really happy about the reopening of the terminal because they believe politics is involved. They are afraid that after the elections, they will be again told to stay away from the terminal. But the congressman promised to them that they can stay there permanently.
Meanwhile, former vice mayor Aberdovey Belleza who is a candidate for vice mayor said that his call for the reopening of the terminal for the drivers and vendors was heard by the administration. He said that he is happy about the move but he asked until when the arrangement will last. —/JPM (FREEMAN)
