CEBU, Philippines - For the second consecutive year the Cebu City Medical Center has been adjudged as the city’s outstanding department of the year.
CCMC head Dr. Gloria Duterte was also awarded as Outstanding Department Head of the Year during the awarding ceremonies of the outstanding City Hall officials and employees as part of the celebration of the 76th Charter Day celebration last Wednesday.
Mayor Michael Rama personally handed over to Duterte the P50,000 reward after CCMC won as outstanding department, and another P50,000 for her as outstanding department head of the year.
During the administration of former mayor Tomas Osmeña, CCMC was graded with low performance.
Duterte recalled when Rama offered to designate her as officer-in-charge of the 50-year-old city-run hospital.
“I have doubts and fears that I may not meet the expectations, but I have to dream high to hit the bull’s eye, and being an outstanding department for two times is a great motivation to work hard to give CCMC a new image,†Duterte said.
The mayor reminded Duterte to keep up the good work because there is still room for improvement and told her not to deny patients, particularly emergency cases at the CCMC.
“Bahala na og magdasok ang mga pasyente ato g’yud sila nga atimanon,†the mayor said.
Duterte said the money that they received will be spent to renovate the hospital’s medicare and employees ward, including the laboratory section.
Aside from Duterte, three other CCMC personnel were also awarded. They are Lyrma Soledad as Outstanding Division head, Elizabeth Calumpang as outstanding section head and Teresita Figuracion as outstanding rank-and-file employee.
Dr. Pilar Romero of the Department of Veterinary Medicines got the outstanding assistant department head of the year award, while the outstanding division head awards went to Oscar Abordo, Raquel Arce, Jason Bongcales and Soledad.
Outstanding section head awards went to Eddie Reyes of the city abattoir, Jessica Maribojoc of DVMF and Maria Theresa Tipgos of City Health. (FREEMAN)
