BOC to hold anniversary in Cebu today

CEBU, Philippines - After three years of stay as district collector of the Bureau of Customs in the Port of Cebu, Collector Ronnie Silvestre will relinquish his post today with “happy memories” as the agency celebrates its 111th founding anniversary.

The celebration will be held at its old building being used by then President Gloria Arroyo as Malacañang sa Sugbo with more than 400 guests expected to attend.

In yesterday’s 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza, Silvestre said that it will be the first time in the history of the BOC to hold its founding anniversary outside of Manila.

“As I get to my new post, I will not forget all the good things I’ve experienced from all of you, Cebuanos are very hospitable, warm people,” he said.

Silvestre said that President Benigno Aquino III approved the holding of their activities at the old building being used by the Arroyo administration as Malacañang sa Sugbo.

Silvestre announced that the Port of Cebu will be one of the awardees today for exceeding the target collection last year.

He also thanked the people who have helped him in curbing illegal smuggling in Cebu by strictly enforcing the law.

“With the help of our people, we really work as a team. That is the reason why we are successful in apprehension of smuggled shipments,” Silvestre said.

The Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc.-Cebu Chapter commended Silvestre for having shown admirable qualities of innovation, creativity, resilience and leadership during his term as district collector.

The CCBI said that Silvestre followed the vision of BOC to enhance revenue collections and curb, if not eradicate, smuggling.

Silvestre was instrumental in the BOC’s meeting the P8.677 billion target for 2012 and P13 million surplus collections.

Under Customs Personnel Order no. B-14-2013, Silvestre will be transferred to Clark International Airport in Pampanga as officer-in-charge while collector Edward dela Cuesta, who is the district collector of CIA will take Silvestre’s post.
