Radaza pushes for seat at MCIA

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza hopes that the Senate and President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will approve the bill allowing a representative from the city to sit as member of the board of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authrority (MCIAA).

In a talk with reporters, Mayor Radaza said that the bill is already approved at the House of Representatives and also at the committee level of the Senate. She hopes that before the end of the term of senators this year, it will be given priority.

Radaza said that her husband, Lone District of Lapu-Lapu City Congressman Arturo Radaza, introduced the bill and got the support of the House of Representatives which introduced amendments to the MCIAA charter.

Radaza’s amendments is to allow a representative from the Lapu-Lapu City Government to sit as member of the MCIAA board.

The congressmen said that while the Mactan Airport is located in Lapu-Lapu City, there is no representative from Lapu-Lapu at the board.

Most of those appointed are not from Lapu-Lapu City especially the representatives from the different sectors.

Mayor Radaza, on the other hand, said that there is a need for the city government of Lapu-Lapu to be represented at the board of the MCIAA.

“Adunay mga problema diha sa MCIAA nga angayan usab mahibawo kita sa dakbayan sa Lapu-Lapu,” said Mayor Radaza. (They have problems there that we need to know of.)

The City Government of Lapu-Lapu has demanded for MCIAA to pay their unpaid real property taxes amounting to P1.5 billion.

MCIAA authorities, meanwhile, questioned the said amount. Although they are willing to pay, they do not believe it would reach that amount.  (FREEMAN)
