CEBU, Philippines - A 40-year-old man was beheaded by his relative who allegedly ran amok Saturday evening in Purok Kan- agahan, Sitio Tagaytay, Barangay San Tabla, Liloan.
The suspect, Francisco Tumayao Tundag, 49, also hacked Bobet “Botoy” Canatan, 40, several times with a bolo.
Tundag was arrested and now detained at the Liloan police stockade pending the filing of a case in court.
Tundag was believed to have been suffering from a nervous breakdown, which is why he will be subjected to psychological examination.
Investigation revealed that Canatan and two other companions, Metchie Salundaguit and Armando Sungcal, were traveling on two motorcycles when they saw Tundag rushing toward them head on with a bolo in hand. The suspect reportedly tried to block their way, which prompted them to stop, alight from the motorcycles and run for their lives.
Tundag reportedly chased Canatan and caught up with the victim at a secluded area. There, he hacked the victim several times and beheaded him.
PO3 Renato Pendo of the Liloan Police Station said Tundag even threw the victim’s head five meters away from the body.
Police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation and subsequently arrested Tundag. They recovered two bolos, a green polo shirt, and a pair of maong shorts with bloodstains from the suspect.
Canatan’s remains were taken to the Maturan Funeral Homes for autopsy.
It was unclear whether the suspect bore a grudge against the victim and the latter’s companions. –/JMO (FREEMAN)
