Last January 6, Marco Polo Plaza launched its iconic culinary journey, Sugbusog 2016: Seafood Edition! The launching started with welcome remarks from Marco Polo Plaza’s General Manager Ms. Julie Najar followed by a speech by Ms. Jessica Avila, Marco Polo Plaza’s Culinary Consultant for Sugbusog.
The launching was also graced by Cebu Vice-Governor Agnes Magpale, who talked about Sinulog’s historical traditions. In celebration of Sinulog, an antique Sto. Niño Collection by Valentino and Ofelia Sandiego, Ernesto “Ben” Chua, Helen Ynclino Bucag and Mark Steven Go is exhibited at the lobby until January 17. The exhibit was blessed by Msgr. Roberto Alesna. Guests were entertained by the San Diego Dance Company dancing to the Sinulog beat with their colorful and vibrant costumes.
Sugbusog was officially launched through “pamasol” – the Cebuano term for catching fish from the sea. To signify the occasion, General Manager Julie Najar, Vice-Governor Agnes Magpale, Culinary Consultant Jessica Avila and Msgr. Roberto Alesna raised their fishnets with freshly caught fish from their small sized wooden boats.
The finale was at Café Marco where the guests enjoyed the sumptuous array of Cebuano dishes on top of the famous international buffet spread. Marco Polo Plaza also prepared famous Cebuano delicacies as tokens for the guests who came. They all went home with something sweet (Bucayo), something salty (Bagoong) and something sour (Atchara). Sugbusog runs from January 6 – 17.
