CEBU, Philippines - The winners of this year’s “Green Fashion Revolution” – an annual intercollegiate fashion design competition – were formally recognized on Saturday, September 26, last week.
Announced after the runway presentation of the fashion entries to the competition held at the Cebu Trade Hall of SM City Cebu, the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) emerged as this year’s “Green Fashion Revolution” Champion. The University of San Carlos (USC), the University of the Philippines Cebu (UP Cebu) and the University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJR) bagged the 1st and 2nd Runner-Up awards, respectively.
Now on its fourth year, the participating schools in this year’s competition were tasked to design and model fashion-forward clothes, bags and accessories crafted with the use of recycled and repurposed materials.
The entries to the competition were prejudged, and the prejudging scores were factored in with the scores at the runway competition. In the weeks leading to last Saturday’s main event, the contending designers were made to undergo basic fashion design workshop with Cebuano designer Dexter Alazas.
Originally conceptualized by a group of Aboitiz scholars during the Aboitiz Scholars’ CSR Summit in December 2011, “Green Fashion Revolution” is under the auspices of the Aboitiz Foundation. The “Green Fashion Revolution” has since tested and challenged the aesthetic capabilities of Cebu’s young designers – with the “reduce, reuse, recycle” as its guiding philosophy. (FREEMAN)
