Reliving the disco

CEBU, Philippines – When an invitation to Shangrila's Mactan Resort "Disco Inferno" came, I was so revved up with anticipation for an entire week. On the night itself, I was in a quandary on what to wear. From the title alone, I knew this was going back to the musical vibes of the 70s, to the famous Studio 54. And boy was I right!

At the Shangri-la's Macran Island Resort & Spa, the Marquee's entry was turned into a life-size wall of blast-from-the-past as psychedelic colors of the past era were executed in forms of cassette tapes, boxes and floppy discs. For additional effect, a number of the classic VW Beetle in various tones was displayed around the area. And this was just in coming in.

Once inside, Studio 54 may not have been depicted but the stage design by Debbie Huang and great ceiling effects by Pinky Mozar Chang still carried the kaleidoscope theme practically from-head-to-foot with a modern touch. Making the event the absolute tribute to the glitzy era was the music dished out by DJ Bong Durano!

It was music, vibe and dance coming together under the creative genius of Mark Anton Masa. But what made the evening truly remarkable was the turnout of Cebu's hardcore partyphiles - all dressed to-the-disco-nines. It was such a delight to see and catch-up with everyone. Until the next party then, cheers!
