CEBU, Philippines - This Christmas, Cemex Philippines and Apo Cement Corp. whose plant is in Tinaan, City of Naga, Cebu brought back the smiles of the children in Gibitngil Island in Medellin town, Northern Cebu by giving them their Christmas wish last December 7.
Some 300 children were treated to a kiddie meal from Jollibee Corp. and were entertained by mascots Jollibee and Hetty when Cemex officials and employees from Makati arrived in the island. Gibitngil, located 120 kilometers from Cebu City, is one of the areas devastated by super typhoon Yolanda.
Prior to their visit, a Cemex employee interviewed the children and asked them what they wish to get for Christmas. Each Cemex employee then adopted one child wherein he or she will be responsible to buy the child’s Christmas wish. Various wishes came such as school bags, supplies, a dress, a pair of shoes or a pair of pants. On top of their wish, the children also received a pair of slippers and their families received a pack of relief goods.
Cemex Manila officials led by Engr. Juan Fernando Enriquez Martel, vice president for technical operations, Ma. Virginia Eala, vice president for human resources and Engr. Normandy Chan, outgoing Apo plant director, distributed packs of relief goods to more than 500 families in Gibitngil. (FREEMAN)
