The Art of Paco Gorospe

CEBU, Philippines - More than 30 works crafted by master artist Francisco "Paco" Gorospe Sy are currently on exhibit in Qube Gallery at the Henry Hotel, proffering and exemplifying the artist's unpretentious and spontaneous diction as a creative visionary.

Widely regarded as the "Picasso of the Philippines", the exhibit – entitled Paco Gorospe: The Picasso of the Philippines – takes a profound stance in bringing together a relevant sampling of the different techniques and styles the artist had immersed himself in in his lifetime, apart from showcasing the many subjects and themes which had captivated his creative fancies.

From works that illustrate the varied assertions of enterprise to pieces intent on simply capturing beauty in all its forms, the show manages to exemplify the qualifiers and variables which have defined Gorospe as one of the country's top artistic talents – a standing which remains to be unfettered even after a decade since his demise.

From impressionist-themed landscapes, abstract expressionist compositions, and cubist-inspired portraits, the show readily heralds Gorospe's keen and discerning control of lines, colors, shades and hues, yielding to a body of works that can't be pegged as mere eye candy steered and driven by the progressive inclinations of the modernist movement.

In an insecure world that undermines and validates clumsy analogies that delve into the corrosive qualities of the signs of the times, visual artists play an essential role in archiving society's growth, progress and direction.

Francisco Gorospe Sy – more popularly known as Paco Gorospe – stands out as one of the Philippines' active "creative archivers", one who had devoted his life's energy to the canvas in capturing beauty as perceived by his discerning eye.

Paco Gorospe: The Picasso of the Philippines will be on exhibit until November 28, 2013 in Qube Gallery at The Henry Hotel, No 1 Paseo Saturina, Maria Luisa Road, Banilad. For more information, visit www.qubegallery.com or like Qube @ www.facebook.com/qubegallery
