CEBU, Philippines - Grade 4 pupil Juan Joaquin Rafael Rodriguez and Grade 5 students John Paul Trinidad and Nathaniel Louie dela Cruz of Marie Ernestine School in Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City will compete in the World Robot Olympiad in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 15 to 17, 2013 after they bagged the first place in the 12th Philippine Robotics Olympiad in the Open Category - Elementary Division, besting 57 other teams from all over the country.
In that competition, they garnered a perfect score of 110 in 24 seconds, the highest score in the shortest time, with their winning piece, the LEGO Robotics from the LEGO Education Kits.
Team leader John Paul wants to be an IT practitioner someday but while still in school, he wants to be better and smarter in Math. "I want to get that Best in Math award." What he aims to come-up as a robot project is a humanoid robot for an easier lifestyle. Meanwhile, Nathaniel wants to be a doctor in order to save lives, and wants to build a crocodile robot that will eat trash for a more livable environment. The youngest, Juan, is truly a builder, wanting to become an engineer someday. He wishes to make a soccer robot. The three are part of the Robotics Club in their school under the guidance of their coach Donald Dungog. They are currently undergoing trainings in order to bring home the bacon.
This will be the school's second time to join the competition. They last competed in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and bagged the second place.
