DoMINIONS Minions, they’re all over!

CEBU, Philippines - Equally popular as the cast of Monsters University, the little yellow Minions of the computer-animated comedy film Despicable Me have won the hearts of many. Jolly, goofy and babbling (Have you heard of the Ba-ba-ba, Ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-banana,  Bananaaaahhh!!! song [yes, they love bananas and papples err apples]?), these charmers are the reason why the movie sequel is much-awaited — they are heavily involved in part two which was officially shown to the public yesterday. The long queues at the cinemas were overwhelming! All were excited to finally see Larry, Dave, Phil, Mark, Stuart, Tim, Kevin, Jorge, Jerry, among others in the big screen after two years of waiting!

But do you know what a minion is? The most common definition you can find in online dictionaries is: a minion is a loyal servant or follower to a powerful being. In Despicable Me, the minions’ boss is Gru, the changed villain who was once an evil person who later adopted and raised three orphans. The cylinder-shaped, genetically humanized kernels (as despicableme.wikia.com describes them) carry out their task day and night to their boss’ delight. Aside from being clever, they’re hardworking, team players, focused, goal-oriented, loyal (to their boss), resourceful, disciplined workers, fun-loving and helpful as seen in the movie.

Although they are similar in size, each yellow midget has its own forte; each one is unique with a special ability just like humans. And just like them, if we work together, we will achieve our goals.

No wonder a lot of people are amused of the Minions because of the positive traits that they portray in the movie. Let’s learn from them aside from being inspired with Gru and Margo, Edith and Agnes’ adventures that mostly touch on love of family and changing for the better.

So, have you already completed your Minions McDonalds Happy Meal collection? I heard the toys are selling like hotcakes! Even our ates and kuyas are getting hooked!

Good news is, because of the minions’ stellar popularity, they are set to have their own movie next year in December!
