Until It Breaks

CEBU, Philippines - Humpty Dumpty watched intently as the king’s men marched before him. “Little do they know,” he thought to himself, “that had these men not been fed with a heavy egg diet, they would not be as brawny and as sturdy as they march now.” Smart, sturdy and solemn, the king’s men marched in a pageantry befitting of royalty. But Humpty Dumpty had perched so precariously on a ledge that… “Oopps... ah... ” the egg fell. And yes, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men could not put Humpty Dumpty together again. Ugh, that is what eggs are for, once these are broken, these are eaten.

Eggs are among God’s unusual creations because it does not have lids or locks and yet its contents are precious minerals for the human body. You would have to break an egg, to be nourished by its contents. But unlike eggs where neither the king’s horses nor king’s men cannot put together again, God, through his Son Jesus Christ can put back together a broken life and bring  nourishment in God’s kindness. Putting a metaphor between spiritual nutrition and physical nutrition, eggs can repair the human body when it breaks down and nourish the body to keep it from breaking down.

Through the decades, there has been a plethora of books, journals and web postings on the many benefits of eggs. Among the precious minerals in eggs is choline. Although the human body can produce choline by itself, yet inadequacies in diet and sometimes sinful lifestyles make the production of choline deficient and sparse. Deficiency of choline causes deficiency in folic acid that eventually metastasizes to other complications. It is said that choline is a key component in brain function and health. Fat containing structures in cell membranes of the brain depend on choline for brain health. Choline is needed for the neurotransmitters necessary for passing and sending messages from the brain to other organs and components of the body.
