Award-winning director Eduardo “Edong” Roy, Jr. says the role of Lola Igna fits veteran actress Angie Ferro to a T. Direk Edong describes Lola Igna as feisty and seeing Angie give life to the role made him say he made the right choice.
“The role of Lola Igna is not your typical grandmother who is sweet. She says what she wants to say, what’s on her mind, and what’s inside her heart. When I watched some of the old films of Tita Angie, I told myself I want to see her portray a different kind of role. I want to put her in the spotlight and I believe it’s about time we give her a chance to be the lead character in a movie. Each time she appears onscreen, she gets to steal the scene without really trying. It was easy for me to cast her as Lola Igna,” Direk Edong explained.
He got to work with Yves Flores in “Ipaglaban Mo” and he said the role of the vlogger fits him. Prior to working with Royce Rosello in “Fuccbois,” he cast him first in “Lola Igna” as one of the grandsons.
“They are very good actors. It was easy working with them. The hardest part of a director’s job is to get the best actors for his movie. Well, I can say that I made the right choice in casting my actors, including Maria Isabel Lopez and Meryl Soriano,” the director continued.
Direk Edong considers “Lola Igna” as one of his best works. It is well-acted and the finished film is excellent. “Lola Igna presents a different kind of narrative. I am proud of this film. This may be a small film but it has the heart that the audience is looking for,” he said.
“Lola Igna” got an A-rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board. It is one of the entries to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino which starts on Friday, September 13.

If it’s a musical film that you want, then you should watch “LSS” or Last Song Syndrome from Globe Studios.
Playing the lead roles in the movie are real-life couple Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos. Featured in the film are the songs of the popular band Ben&Ben who play themselves in the film.
According to Jade Castro, who directs the movie, he didn’t know that Gabbi and Khalil were in a relationship when they accepted the offer to do the film. But he believes that served the movie in good stead since they have very good chemistry in the movie and you can feel the love emanating from both of them.
The music of Ben&Ben also helped in setting the mood of the film. Direk Jade is very thankful to the band since they even composed new songs that were used in the movie and that made him admire the band even more. He said added they did well as actors although they were basically playing themselves in the movie.
