CEBU, Philippines – This is one list that no actor wants to find themselves on.
Johnny Depp has been named the most overpaid actor of 2015, as according to Forbes, his recent films “Mortdecai” and “Transcendence” returned a mere $1.20 for every $1 he was paid.
Adam Sandler previously held the title for the last two years, but he was deemed ineligible due to his current Netflix deal. Depp, 52, was second on 2014’s list. This year, it’s “The Equalizer” star Denzel Washington who was crowned runner-up. The actor’s return on investment was $6.50 for every $1 he was paid.
According to Forbes, Depp used to be able to rake in the dough. The last four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films grossed $3.7 billion.
Depp’s film “Mortdecai,” which was released in January, earned a mere $47 million and cost $60 million to make. “Transcendence,” from 2014, also barely made back what it cost — $100 million. “Black Mass” earned $94.5 million.
In Depp’s defense, Forbes notes that his upcoming sequels “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will likely score at the box office.
