First look at Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy

CEBU, Philippines - Natalie Portman is the spitting image of Jacqueline Kennedy in “Jackie,” E! News having obtained the official first-look picture of the star in the upcoming film about the days immediately following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.

From the perfect flip to the effortlessly fabulous crimson suit, the movie’s costume, hair and makeup teams have that classic, of-the-era look down to a tee.

“Jackie,” directed by Pablo Larraín and with a screenplay by Noah Oppenheim, is due out in 2017.

Portman definitely has the look down, and fans can’t wait to see how she interprets the role.

While playing a historical figure comes with its own set of challenges, playing Jackie Kennedy (née Bouvier and future Onassis) puts the Oscar winner in a pretty big club.

Over a dozen actresses have played the famous first lady turned publisher and socialite at various stages of her life through the years.

Katie Holmes donned the famous pillbox hat in the controversial 2011 Reelz miniseries “The Kennedys,” as did Ginnifer Goodwin in the 2013 TV movie “Killing Kennedy,” based on the book by Bill O’Reilly.

But how about Roma Downey playing Jackie when she still went by her maiden name in the 1991 TV adaptation of the bestselling biography “A Woman Named Jackie?” Or Jill Hennessy in 2001’s “Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The Women of Camelot,” with Lauren Holly playing Bobby Kennedy’s wife, Ethel?

Then there was Victoria Beckham channeling Jackie in the Spice Girls’ video for “The Lady Is a Vamp.”

And like Portman, Minka Kelly got to play the role on the big screen in Lee Daniels’ “The Butler,” another brunette stunner following in the footsteps of the aforementioned stars, as well as Jaclyn Smith (“Jackie Kennedy”), Jacqueline Bisset (“America’s Prince: The John F. Kennedy Story”) and Jeanne Tripplehorn (“Grey Gardens”).

Portman’s contribution to the canon awaits! (FREEMAN)
