Moonpools and Caterpillars reunited and it feels so good

CEBU, Philippines - The band that brought undeniable fun and infectious blast of energy to the crowd from the 90s once more treated their Filipino fans to their playful, upbeat and groovy music as they set foot for the first time in Cebu.

Following their spectacular concert in Manila, the Filipino-American California-based rock band Moonpools and Caterpillars delighted the Cebuano crowd as they sang live at the Outpost Bar and Resto, Lahug, Wednesday night during their concert titled “Moonpools and Caterpillars D’ Return op D’ Comeback.”

It was way back on 1996 when the bands had first performed in the country and had captured many souls with their indie rock style of music. After a 15-year hiatus, the band reunited after the Ethiopia Health Aid event followed by a benefit concert for the Yolanda victims months after.

“We did that show, and it was a success. And it felt good, for it was for a cause, so it was great.  And then Yolanda happened, so we wanted to do something. We did that for Ethiopia, we can totally do that for our own homeland,” said Moonpools and Caterpillars bassist Tim de Pala. The other band members are female lead singer Kimi Ward Encarnacion guitarist Jay Encarnacion and drummer Gugut Salgado.

The band turned the night into a once-in-a-blue-moon experience to everyone who was there rocking and singing along to the songs from their hit 1995 album “Lucky Dumpling” and other songs from their self-released 1998 album “12 Songs.”

Moonpools and Caterpillars songs “Summertime,” “Colossal Youth,” “Hear” and “Heaven” were part of the soundtracks for the films “The Baby-Sitters Club” (1995) and “Wish Upon A Star” (1996).

Not missing this rare chance, we cozied up to bassist Tim de Pala before their Outpost concert, who warmly welcomed a quick interview in behalf of the band. – Itchelle P. Sarias, CNU B.A Communication Intern (FREEMAN)
