Original prince of comedy Herbert Bautista is back via Regal Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry Shake, Rattle & Roll 14 The Invasion where he topbills the Pamana episode with Janice de Belen and Arlene Muhlach.
The amiable mayor of Quezon City’s comeback to the big screen is creating a stir in media since he has been away from the limelight for five years. He has had a few encounters with the members of the entertainment media in some of his projects. And since he is starring in a franchise movie for the festival, Mayor Bistek hosted a presscon cum Christmas party to reconnect with old friends.
“I am happy to meet the members of the press thru the help of Mother Lily Monteverde who also was the one who convinced me to make an acting comeback via this new version of Shake, Rattle & Roll,” said Bistek.
How does it feel acting again? “Ang sarap. Ang tagal ko rin naman hindi nakagawa ng movie. My last acting project was for a TV show. This also happens to be my first movie under Direk Chito Roño. He is strict and he has firm control of the material. Pati sa acting, binabantayan niya. He will guide you kung over acting ka o under acting. I am very happy that I got the chance to work with Direk Chito Roño in this movie and I learned so much from him,” he said.
Did he do all out comedy in this movie? “Direk Chito just told me to do what I feel should be done. Even the punch lines came from him.”
This is also a reunion for Herbert and Janice who first worked together as child stars in the popular drama series Flor de Luna. “We haven’t done a movie together. We were in the original Shake, Rattle & Roll but we appeared in separate episodes,” he added.
Bistek said that as suggested by Mother Lily, Vic del Rosario of Viva Entertainment and friends from showbiz, he should do at least one movie a year. He is cooking a project that would involve the stars from the three networks – Kapamilya, Kapatid and Kapuso.
He also said that there might be a possibility that he would do an indie film project and Bistek added that he is discussing a story with Roderick Paulate. But they are just contemplating if they are going to make it an indie film project or do it as a mainstream flick.
He doesn’t want to speculate on the chances of SRR 14 The Invasion at the box-office but Bistek said it would be nice if all the entries would make money. “It would be better to watch all the entries sa festival so that all would make money. But please give special preference to SSR 14 The Invasion because we are in it,” he joked. “But seriously, let us watch all entries.”
In the movie, he plays a priest who went out of priesthood to get married. Janice de Belen and Arlene Muhlach play his cousins. Relive and experience Herbert’s unique comic flair as the mother and daughter team of Lily and Roselle Monteverde tap him for Ang Pamana episode of SRR 14.
He is likewise reviving his film production company next year to help give local cinema a much needed shot in the arm.
