CEBU, Philippines — The hotel development arm of Duros Group of Companies is set to open three hotels in 2022 in anticipation of a possible tourism rebound.
“We are spending money [for hotel developments] to prepare for the economy to open,” said Duros Group president Fe M. Barino in a press conference yesterday.
The company is currently building two hotels, one in Liloan in northern Cebu and another in Cebu City.
The One Tectona Hotel, a 101-room niche hotel to serve the golf tourism market is set to open by second quarter of 2022.
The Cebu Quincentennial Hotel, situated in Cebu City, on the other hand, is a 45-room hotel, which will bank on the faith tourism market.
The company’s first resort development in Siargao called Gana Resort, is also set to re-open if and when Siargao starts easing transportation access and health protocols.
Overall, the Duros Group will open a total of 184 rooms by 2022, each targeting a specific niche market.
“During the pandemic we found time to explore what we already have,” Barino said explaining that despite the weak tourism movement due to lockdowns, the company saw the opportunity to build in order to prepare for the recovery.
In fact, aside from these three accommodation facilities, Duros Group is also drawing up plans for a 100-room airport hotel on Panglao Isand in Bohol.
“Tourism never dies,” said Duros Hotels Inc. head Adi Gallares.
Gallares believes that its only a matter of time that tourism picks up again, as vaccination rollout accelerates.
