CEBU, Philippines — After the successful first Cebu Design Week (CDW) last year, the second edition of what is seen to be an annual event is coming up this year.
The event is slated on September 8-15, said Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) treasurer Cristina Lo.
“This will try to get the attention of the local and international creative sectors and designers not only furniture but all fields of creative designs,” she said.
CDW aims to connect diverse creative disciplines and industries in a series of multi-format events which will showcase design, arts and culture.
It is an exciting launch pad to reassert Cebu’s vaunted design reputation and reclaim its creative city status.
It also aims to become a platform for new and seasoned designers to collaborate, unify and intensify Cebu’s design reputation and identity as a creative city.
It aims to showcase diverse creative disciplines such as fashion and accessories, furniture, graphic design, fine arts and culinary arts; and present opportunities to work with different design groups and generate strategies for Cebu’s future development while preserving Cebuano heritage and traditional craftsmanship.
Regional Development Council chair Kenneth Cobonpue, a well-known furniture designer, earlier said the CDW will help boost Cebu’s creative economy.
CFIF, together with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines supported by the Department of Trade and Industry in Cebu and Region 7, is taking the lead in organizing the event. (FREEMAN)
