Public warned on swindlers using fake BSP documents

CEBU, Philippines – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has warned the public not to engage in commercial transactions with swindlers who lure them by presenting fake BSP documents and get money from them.

“These documents imitate the BSP letterhead and seal and signatures of BSP officials,” the central bank said in an advisory.

The BSP made it clear that it is a financial regulator and only transacts with financial firms under its supervision.

“The BSP does not issue, secure or guarantee commercial documents such as certificates of deposit or investment in the name of individuals or private groups,” the regulator said.

The BSP advised the public to immediately report this kind of scam to its Financial Consumer Protection Department through consumeraffairs@bsp.gov.ph.
