PCA: Job opportunities await for new graduates

CEBU, Philippines – The Philippine Coconut Authority in Central Visayas is calling on fresh graduates to consider working in the coconut industry.

In a phone interview yesterday, PCA-7 acting regional manager Timoteo Lago, Jr. said job opportunities await new graduates of agriculture and allied degree programs such as veterinary, fisheries and agricultural engineering.

Lago told agriculture graduates to apply in PCA as there are vacant key positions in the agency nationwide; its CV regional office is in Mandaue City.

“Pwede nilang masudlan ang coconut industry as field men and agriculturists,” he said.

The authority needs those who can help in the improvement of the coconut sector and introduce innovations.

PCA-7 needs more agriculturists as it continues to restore coconut farms in Central Visayas that were destroyed by major typhoons.

Primo Galendez, the agency’s acting senior agriculturist, noted more field workers are needed to implement programs for coconut farmers in the region.

“Naa tay replanting programs and coconut seedling dispersal [to the farmers],” he said.

The PCA has opened 190 job vacancies such as agriculturists, administrative positions and project development officers in its regional and central offices.

PCA is one of the four agencies under the management of food security chief Francis Pangilinan and is also under the agriculture agency.
