We often see on television an advertisement reminding us that to be sick is difficult. To be sick is expensive especially with the prize of medicine, doctor’s fee, and hospitalization. Hence we should observe healthy living and positive attitude towards life.
Dr. Willie Ong, in his book, “How to Live Longer,’ shares the concern of one of his patients who wrote a letter to him by asking this question, “My husband and I are meat lovers. We are not used to eating vegetables. He has diabetes while I have high blood pressure. Both of us are over our weight limit. How do we start to diet?”
Dr. Ong suggests the following tips recommended by American Heart Association:
Choose lean meats and poultry without skin. Organ meats such as liver, kidneys and brain are very high in cholesterol.
Fish is healthier than meat. Prefer fish baked, broiled, grilled or boiled rather than breaded and fried.
Read nutritional labels. They’ll help you choose foods more wisely.
Select fat free, 1 percent fat and low-fat dairy products.
Reduce cholesterol intake. Prefer egg whites for they don’t contain cholesterol.
Try to avoid beverages and foods with added sugars.
Salty isn’t healthy. Limit high-sodium condiments such as soy sauce, bagoong, steak sauce.
Aside from eating healthy foods, Dr. Drauzio Varella of “Positive website” cites some ways wherein we can avoid being ill. He said:
•If you don’t want to be ill…Speak your feelings. Emotions and feelings that are hidden or repressed can end in illness such as lumbar and spiral pains.
•If you don’t want to be ill…Make decisions. The undecided person remains in doubt, in anxiety in anguish. Indecision accumulates problems, worries and aggression. The undecided people are victims of gastric ailments, nervous pains, and problems of the skin.
•If you don’t want to be ill…Find solutions. Negative people do not find solutions and they enlarged their problems. The negative thought generates negative energy that is transformed into illness.
•If you don’t want to be ill…Don’t live by appearances, who hides reality, pretends and gives the impression of being well. Their destiny is the pharmacy, hospital and pain.
•If you don’t want to be ill…Accept. The refusal of acceptance and the absence of self-esteem makes us alienated to ourselves. Being at ourselves is the core of a healthy life. Accept criticisms. It is wisdom, good sense, and therapy.
•If you don’t want to be ill… Trust in the Lord . Trust in His mercy and kindness.
•If you don’t want to be ill…Do not live life sad. Good humor. Laughter. Rest. Happiness. These replenish health and bring long life. The happy person has the gift to improve the environment wherever they live. Good humor saves us from the hands of the doctor. Happiness is health and therapy.
